Go Green East Harlem! Seminars for Supers
(Click for Seminar Calendar)
Seminars for Supers is a series of free monthly workshops coordinated by a unique collaboration of organizations working under the Go Green East Harlem! umbrella to improve the quality of life in East Harlem.
Our seminars aim to provide a useful background on building maintenance techniques that help reduce a building's impact on the environment and reduce exposure to chemicals that can harm human health. By presenting our expertise to building managers and superintendents in the community we hope provide applicable information to participants and offer our ongoing support to the community to implement these initiatives to go green in East Harlem.
The topics selected provide a holistic approach to healthy living conditions and a clean environment. The seminars are designed to address the concerns of both supers and tenants, helping to create a bridge that can lead to a nicer living environment for tenants and a better workplace for building staff.
This seminar will review the health benefits of using
Integrated Pest Management for tenants, maintenance workers and pest control
professionals. Participants will learn
the basic techniques for reducing/eliminating cockroaches, bed bugs and rodents
while minimizing the use of harmful poisons.
The presentation will also include a review of pest control products and
tools that can be used to make IPM easier and more effective and a case study
where IPM was successfully implemented in a residential building.
This seminar will identify ways that
buildings waste water and energy and highlight some practical conservation
measures. Attendees will hear about services available to assess and
improve buildings’ performances, a case study on fluorescent lamp recycling
programs and expert tenant relations advice on how to build support and
participation for thier own building conservation programs.
This seminar will identify effective methods to clean buildings with comparable 'green' cleaning products that will improve the health of cleaning staff and building occupants without raising costs. Attendees will learn to look out for harmful ingredients in everyday household cleaners and where to find alternative products. This session will also include feedback from local supers who have tested green cleaning products during the past two weeks.
